The earlier introduction explains energy-harvesting controls. For a cost example, there is a useful distinction between a working European switch/receiver pairing and something that has actually been approved and supplied for Australia. Currency conversion does not establish radio compliance.

A real European example
Eltako FT55-wg physical wireless rocker → compatible EnOcean radio receiver in an Eltako FSR61NP-230V relay → an ordinary mains light. In this direct learned pairing the receiver is the actuator: a separate internet hub or cloud service is not inherently required.

The Eltako FT55 instructions identify an energy-harvesting, battery-free wall control at 868.3 MHz. Its press supplies the radio energy. The FSR61NP-230V manufacturer datasheet describes the corresponding mains-powered switching actuator and learn-in functions. This example is for on/off switching; it does not turn an ordinary light into a dimmable one.

Checked public prices: German market, not an AU shopping recommendation
  • Eltako FT55-wg, article 30000595, at Elektro Wandelt — EUR 45.88 / AUD 74.47 / USD 51.38, including 19% German VAT, excluding shipping. It is a finished rocker/frame wall control; check the supplied single/double rocker arrangement against the desired functions.
  • Eltako FSR61NP-230V at Voltking — EUR 75.08 / AUD 121.86 / USD 84.09, including 19% German VAT, excluding shipping. One switched channel; the manufacturer gives load-specific limits. Its 10 A contact rating is not a universal 10 A LED rating.
Add an actual complete European light
EGLO FUEVA 5 99266 integrated LED ceiling/wall light is EUR 38.36 / AUD 62.26 / USD 42.96, including 19% German VAT at Beleuchtung-mit-LED, delivery 4–7 working days. The retailer specifies 220–240 V, 20.5 W and included light source; EGLO confirms integrated LEDs and non-dimmable operation. Its mains operating electronics are part of the fitting, so this example does not omit a separately purchased driver, lamp holder or bulb.

European switch + receiver + complete light equipment subtotal: EUR 159.32 / AUD 258.59 / USD 178.43. The FT55 and FSR61NP alone total EUR120.96; that figure omits the light and is not a complete setup. All three source prices include German VAT; this comparison does not guess export-tax refunds, freight, import charges or an Australian approval.

Remaining required-item checklist
  • FT55 finished wall control, FSR61NP-230V receiver/actuator and the EGLO99266 complete luminaire, as costed above. A separate hub, bus PSU, LED driver and PC licence are not required for this direct learned on/off pair.
  • Safe relay enclosure/mounting, ceiling fixing/terminals, protected 230 V mains supply and ordinary mains cable to the light. These are site-specific electrician-supplied quote items. The relay still needs mains power even though the wall switch is wireless.
  • Installer learn-in/pairing and load/inrush/radio-placement tests, using the model's supported local procedure without exposure to live terminals. No internet service is required for direct rocker-to-relay operation.
This is a complete functional-device European comparison, not a completely installed package. It is appropriate in principle as a simple non-dimming 230 V lighting circuit, but the installer must still check actual luminaire inrush against the receiver rating and comply with local installation rules.

Australian scope remains deliberately separate
Do not convert this European868.3MHz example into an Australian shopping recommendation. No approved, priced Australian matched pair was established in this focused pass, so a complete Australian system total remains AUD: quote required; USD: unavailable until locally quoted. WAGO’s Australian EnOcean page is a local ecosystem channel to investigate, not proof that any receiver is a drop-in replacement for the Eltako unit. No Australian lamp is mixed into the European subtotal.

The Australian buying checks
Ask the local supplier to identify exact transmitter and receiver part numbers, permitted Australian radio operation and compliance documentation, receiver mains/load approval, supported EnOcean equipment profiles and the desired rocker telegram behaviour. Two devices saying “EnOcean” is insufficient if their frequency or profile differs. Neither a European 868 MHz listing nor a different region's 902/928 MHz label should be treated as an automatic Australian approval.

This research did not establish an approved, priced Australian matched pair. The European prices are therefore a transparent overseas comparison, not advice to import and energise these exact units here. Amazon/eBay prices are especially unhelpful if the seller cannot identify the regional variant and approval.

Wiring, commissioning and complexity
No control cable or battery is required at the FT55 wall position. The receiver and lamp still require ordinary compliant mains wiring by a licensed electrician. Basic learn-in pairing uses the receiver's supported local procedure rather than a PC licence, but it must be done safely by the installer without exposing live parts. A gateway, app and protocol interface become additional hardware if supervision or broader automation is required.

For a locally supported pair, setup is low-to-moderate complexity; radio placement, metalwork and missed/duplicate actions still need testing. Solving regional compatibility is a purchasing/design task, not something programming can fix. Additional independently controlled lights normally need additional receiver channels; an existing hub is not necessarily reusable infrastructure because this simple design has none.

Literal wiring types for the cost plan
Control: EnOcean868.3MHz wireless, no wall-switch control cable; receiver/light: mains-rated230V cable. No USB/Ethernet/bus cable is needed for this direct pair.

Price basis and safety
Prices were checked on 8 November 2026 (Australia/Sydney), not obtained as quotations. Currency equivalents use the RBA rates for 6 November 2026: AUD 1 = USD 0.6900 = EUR 0.6161. Converted figures are not US/Australian retail offers or landed import prices. Tax treatment is stated beside the source price; shipping, duties, extra tax on imports, wiring, labour and commissioning services are excluded. Site-specific enclosures, backboxes, connectors and circuit protection must be allowed for where listed, not treated as free. Australian fixed mains work requires a licensed electrician. These are researched examples, not hardware-tested installations.
